Well here’s a sneaky style surprise smack dab in the middle of spooky season.
It’s a select clearance items event. So while a lot of it is last season and low on common sizes/colors, there’s also a weirdly good selection of items with solid stock levels. And as this is Nordstrom mainline (and not their off-price Nordstrom Rack chain), it all ships and returns for free.
Picks below had at least a decent size/color selection at post time. But as this is a true clearance, some items may dwindle or sell out entirely. Look for items with the red Extra Savings tag. Those are the ones which have had an extra 20% off already taken. Prices are as marked. Off we go.
Looks perfect for the season. Italian 78% wool, 19% cotton, 3% elastane blend with a super soft construction made to look great over tees and polos and the occasional OCBD. Could be shorter in the tail, but that’s not uncommon for more casual leaning sportcoats like this.
Some people are more than fine spending big money on eyewear. Sunglasses and eyeglasses are, after all, something you wear with just about everything else in your wardrobe. And then there’s those of us who would be rendered a jabbering, incoherent, face-palming mess if we dropped a pair of expensive shades on a gritty sidewalk, or sat on them in the back of a cab.
Is there anything more eternally bad ass than a black t-shirt? 100% Supima Cotton. Anti microbial finish. Works out to $5.95 per shirt.
There’s some “final boss” flex going on there. Which being that they’re from Magnanni’s “Flex” line of extra comfortable shoes, then that makes all the sense in the world.
These are sized by neck/sleeve measurements, which are more precise than the “alpha” sizes (S/M/L) a lot of other brands use. Interesting blend here: 45% cotton, 30% nylon, 21% lyocell, 4% spandex. That’s quite a bit of engineered fibers. But that’s the point as it’s a “performance” dress shirt. Yet also a healthy dose of cotton too. And that particular shade of blue is perfect.
Oh. Hello. Rhone’s performance fabric polos are, frankly, terrific. Breathable/wicking/stretch infused pique fabric. Hidden button down collar keeps the points in line and looks great when worn under a sportcoat. Just navy or “lichen green.” Still a deal, as when Rhone puts their own stuff on sale, it’s often FINAL sale. Yet these ship/return for free. Thanks Nordstrom!
Made in Italy, dark brown suede chukkas. Those’ll do.
From their Henrik line, but unlike most other sportcoats in that line, these are not sized in precise chest measurements. These are more ballpark alpha S/M/L sizes. And if past personal experience is any indicator, expect these to be cut a little shorter than their normal/chest-sized Henrik line. Nice price though. Ships/returns for free always helps, in case it shows up and looks chopped on your frame.
Because with the rise in cotton prices, button up shirts have gotten quite expensive lately. NOT neck/sleeve sized. Ballpark S/M/L alpha sizes. Allegedly knit construction, so don’t expect it to be as sharp as a traditional dress shirt.
A bit of visual interest. Fabric isn’t the norm at 54% polyester, 44% virgin wool, 2% elastane. But at least there’s enough wool in there that it should still feel/look/move naturally.
Heads up that these are “imported” instead of crafted in Port Washington Wisconsin. But with the way costs are on the rise everywhere, that’s getting less and less of a surprise. Might be the perfect time to take some of AE’s imported line out for a spin.
More cotton basics. $5.39 per pair of versatile dress socks AND they ship/return for free. Okay then.
Out of season, but that’s why it’s on clearance. 54% linen, 44% cotton, 2% virgin wool. Butterfly lined in the back. A bold plaid which keeps things from getting too crazy by remaining anchored in earth tones. Could pull some duty with dark wash jeans here in the cooler seasons. But it’ll excel in spring/summer with lighter colored chinos. Head here for a fit perspective on Nordstrom blazers.
More out of season sportcoats. Quarter lined. Breathable 57% linen, 43% virgin wool fabric.
Fall golf is beautiful enough it even gets the worst weekend hackers (like me) out there. Because even if by hole seven you’re BIPSIC (ball in pocket sitting in cart), it’s still gorgeous.
All but sold out and don’t expect them to last. Black or brown. As basic looking as a leather jacket gets. So much so you almost expect it to star in one of those Progressive Insurance “Homeowners becoming their parents” commercials. But the price is dirt cheap for a leather jacket. And it’s all about what you surround it with… or don’t.
Again, it’s a true clearance, so there’s gonna be lots of out of season stuff. 8 colors. 100% Italian linen.
More versatile than you’d think. If you have black shoes made of suede or textured leather, this’ll go with those. It’ll also go with sneakers, and boots (both black and dark brown.) Nubuck is like suede with a crew-cut. So it’s not shiny, and thus, ends up with some gray tones instead of the stark black shine smooth leather black belts come with.
100% combed cotton. Made in Peru. Beach bum style without looking like a true bum.
For those who want to invest in a “swazer.” Made in Italy. 53% cotton / 47% linen. And if it shows up and you don’t like it, then back it goes (for free.)
