Nordstrom Summer Clearance Sale – Men’s Style Picks

Nordstrom Summer Clearance 2016

At almost 4500 items, this is no small sale. That’s almost 70 pages of scrolling and clicking. And while there’s plenty of tempting goods with sizable mark downs, there’s quite a bit of noise in there too. It’s a clearance, right?

But those virtual racks have been carefully examined. All of it. The wheat has been separated from the chaff, with the best of the best below. And as always, all picks have a decent size selection at post time unless otherwise noted. And remember, it’s still Nordstrom. So even though it’s an end of season clearance, where they’re doing their damnedest to get this stuff out of their warehouses, everything still ships AND returns for free.

G.H. Bass & Co. Proctor Buck – $69.99 ($100)

A basic buck in versatile shades o’ suede that will look great with jeans and a sweater, right now. Reinforced eyelets. Looks like the shape might (might) be a bit slimmer than a traditional, bulbous buck?

Nordstrom Flat Front Solid or Check Wool Trousers – $68.98 ($138)

All wool in dependable shades. Solid or check. Looks like these have a 16″ leg opening? So more of a traditional cut, without being enormous on those with some solid beef to their lower halves. They do show up un-hemmed so you can have them set by your tailor to your preferred break. Solids are getting a bit scattered with sizes, depending on what color you’re shooting for.

Timex Waterbury Leather Strap Watch – $61.92 ($67)

Just a measly 5% off, BUT… it does ship and return for free. And this model is oddly difficult to find on sale. Easy to wear, 40mm case diameter. 20mm strap width. NATO strap w/ curved D-rings.

Calibrate Trim Fit Dress Shirt – $29.75 ($59.50)

Just a light blue dress shirt from one of Nordstrom’s in-house brands. And being that it’s Calibrate, expect it to run leaner than most other trim fit shirts.

Calvin Klein Single Monks – $89.90 ($150)

Sleek. Simple. Available in either the eye catching British Tan or the more subdued (and sometimes startlingly difficult to find in a single monk) dark brown. Absolutely suit worthy.

Bensol Wool Trim Fit Two-Button Blazer – $176.98 ($295)

Huge potential here. All wool shell. Just half lined interior. Trim fit. AND they come with lower patch pockets so it’s easy to tell that they’re a sportcoat instead of an orphaned suit jacket? Nice. That’s a combination that’s at the top of a lot of guy’s lists.

Sperry Cloud CVO Sneakers – $35.96’$46.96 ($59.95)

Just because summer is prime time for canvas sneakers doesn’t mean they don’t also see some work in the fall and even winter. They just get worn around the house, or, when the weather isn’t dreadful. Navy color is going for the $47 price point, with the white sneaks going for just under $36.

Skagen Holst Multi Function or Blue Dial – $131.75 ($155)

So it’s not the biggest discount, but finding the Holst on a dark brown strap ain’t no easy task. For those who prefer a pop of color and less sub-dials (as in, no sub dials) there’s the more simple, blue dial option.

To Boot New York Double Monks – $249.90 ($398)

Made in Italy. Dark brown leather. Simple cap toe. Buckles that have their edges nicely rounded. One smooth looking pair of shoes.

7 For All Man. Luxe Performance Slim Straight Jeans – $104.49 ($209)

Not cheap, but word is these are at least a little like the BR Traveler Jean? 92% cotton, 6% polyester, 2% spandex makeup for the fabric.

Monte Rosso ‘Passo’ Cap Toe Oxford – $224.98 ($375)

If the Allen Edmonds Strand had a cousin over in Italy, these would be it. Appears to have a bit more slender of a shape. And is that a little texture to the leather? Nice.

Bonobos Slim Button Downs in Navy Plaid or Blue Check – $42.49 ($85)

Just a couple of button downs, albeit from Bonobos in their welcomed slim fit. That navy plaid might be a bit difficult to pair up at first glance, but layered under light grey stuff (say, a v-neck sweater or even a sportcoat) it should do a nice job flipping the usual contrast script.

Wolverine Adrian in Black – $239.90 ($415) | Red Wing Moc in Ebony Harness – $179.90 ($270)

Sneaky Nordstrom. Since some of the colors available aren’t on sale, it appears that these didn’t show up in the clearance section. Many thanks to Nick S. for the tip!

Jack Mason Nautical NATO Strap Watch – $92.49 ($185)

Not a bad looking watch for under $100. 100m water resistance. 42mm case diameter. 22mm lugs, so it should be super easy to swap out straps, say, for something brown or olive. In fact, that watch might look pretty darn sharp on a medium brown leather strap with some contrast stitching.

1901 ‘Hannon’ Short Sleeve Polo – $19.75 ($39.50)

Button down collar keeps the points from flying away. Bold stripes. All cotton. From one of Nordstrom’s in house, younger leaning brands. Nicely inexpensive.

Todd Snyder White Label Trim Fit Windowpane Suit – $347.49 ($695)

Made in Canada. Wool. Has a pattern that’s a bit adventurous, but not too over the top.

Monte Rosso Single Monk Strap – $236.98 ($395)

Simplicity done really right. Nice shape to the buckle. Good, high placement. Smooth leather. Made in Italy. Hard to beat that.

Billy Reid “Albie” Jacket – $112.49 ($225)

Seems expensive even when on clearance, but Billy Reid does nail the details, and the quality is always there. Bulk is kept to a minimum on purpose. Smaller, diamond quilted pattern. Good looking suede elbow patches. Just large and XL available at post time.

Allen Edmonds Neumok Wingtip – $199.90 ($275)

One of AE’s more casual models, but can still be dressed up with a summer suit or dark denim and a sportcoat. Still a true oxford, but an unlined one. So there’s a bit more of a rugged/relaxed look going on.

J.W.N. Classic Fit Plaid Wool Sport Coat – $298.98 ($598)

From their elevated, higher quality “John W. Nordstrom” line. Don’t see why you couldn’t pair this up with some dark wash denim and chelsea boots?

1901 Check Shirts in “Blue Yonder” or “Blue Surf” – $29.75 ($59.50)

Inexpensive button downs that ship, and also importantly, return for free.

Nordstrom Carson Buck Shoes – $59.96 ($99.95)

Blue suede shoes on a budget. More of a traditional looking shape. Brick red soles. Contrast lacing.

TSOVET 44mm – $217.75 ($325) or 38mm watch – $133.98 ($198)

Same brand, two very different watches. Either big and sporty, or, smaller and casually elegant.

Nordstrom Navy Linen Suit Jacket & Matching Pant = $219.98 ($440)

It’s summer suit clearance time. And while this one isn’t gonna be as cheap as, say, a J. Crew Factory summer suit on clearance, it should be of a pretty solid quality. Don’t underestimate the navy linen suit either.

Eastland Wyatt 1955 Moc Toe Boot – $99.90 ($145)

A BIG fat warning with these: looks like the soles might leave something to be desired. They’re apparently pretty slick/slippery. So don’t plan on wearing these when it’s snowy or icy out. Red Wing looks without the big time price (or apparently the high quality).

The Nordstrom Summer Clearance event ends on 9/11. Not sure what happens after that though. Perhaps further price drops on some of these goods?
