5 Favorites – Suitsupply’s Nish de Gruiter

Sure it’s just stuff.  But stuff can make life easier, more enjoyable, etc,  Every so often we ask one of our favorite, style-appreciating people to rattle off their five favorite things. Sometimes those things will fit into the realm of “affordable,” and sometimes they won’t. We’re going for the favorites here.

Formally employed with Brunello Cucinelli, Suitsupply’s Vice President, 31-year-old Nish de Gruiter, was instrumental in bringing Suitsupply to the US, with the opening of its flagship store in New York City’s Soho neighborhood in June 2011. Just six years later, Suitsupply has increased to over 20 stores across the country, and has become a go-to for many a style-conscious man. And not just for suits either. Their sense of style, as well as their balancing of quality craftsmanship & price, permeates their entire collection.

As is always the case with our 5 Favorites series, nobody is paying us to be featured (which is our standard policy,) and we determine who gets a spot. To ratchet up the difficulty level for those participating who happen to represent a men’s style company on some level (CEOs, designers, owners, etc.,) those types are allowed to pick just one item from their place of work.

Don Julio 1942 Tequilla – $95 – $129.99 (depending on location)

“I Iove some good tequila, and Don Julio is doing it better than anyone. 1942 has been my tequila go-to for a while now, and I don’t see it changing anytime soon.”

Land Rover Defender (out of production)

I think the Defender is the ultimate ride. It’s got all the luxury of a Landrover, but it it’s got a rugged DNA that’s perfect for taking on trips through upstate mountains or the Hamptons.

Suitsupply Havana Fit Traveler Jacket – $399 & Trousers – $200

“There is just nothing like the Suitsupply Havana traveler suit. It’s a high twist 3-ply yarn that’s not only wrinkle resistant, but also looks beautiful. It’s as easy to pack as it is to wear, and that’s why it’s perhaps my favorite of all suits. Cut from a lightweight fabric that easily returns to its original condition after wearing it. It’s great for those frequent flyers among us.”

Throwing a Rooftop BBQ

They’re just the perfect picture of summer. There’s nothing like grilling up some steaks and burgers with cold beers, good friends and a fantastic city view.

Le Labo Santal 33 – $175 / 1.7 oz (or, $6 for a sample)

“That’s my scent. It’s a balanced blend of subtle sweetness and rich woodsy-ness that hits all the right notes. It’s very sophisticated, and not (yet) commercially all over the place.”

Editor’s Note: Items in someone’s 5 favorites does not necessarily mean we here at Dappered have tested it/would have picked it. But, we really like these Guys (and Gals) and wouldn’t ask someone for their favorites unless we thought they had good judgement. Got a guest suggestion for 5 favorites? Send it to joe@dappered.com
