How to Wear it: J. Crew Factory’s $12.49 Oxford Cloth Pants

J.C.F. Oxford Cloth Pant in Sutton Fit – $12.49 FINAL w/ EXTRA50

About the pants: Made from a lightweight oxford cloth, these have become a quick favorite for more than a few of us. Just wish they would have made them in a few more colors. But have no fear. Just because the one color they come in is a “faded spruce” green (and not blue or grey or tan)… that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them with a ton of different things. And when you get them on? Chances are you’ll want to wear them a lot more than you had anticipated. Note that JCF’s “Sutton” fit is more of a straight fit, but shouldn’t balloon out on most frames. Meanwhile, they did make these in the slim “driggs” fit, but those are sold out at post time.

Dressed down with a Polo and Classic Sneakers

A navy polo absolutely works here too. But if you do go with navy instead of white, consider switching out the dark sneakers for white (as seen at the top of the post.) Sure summertime favors browns and tans when it comes to shoes and belts. But the black looks pretty good up against the coolness of the green pants, all while being anchored by the bright white polo up top. That contrast is a nice, crisp departure from the norm.

With a Striped Tee and Shawl Collar Sweater

Really dressed down, but with some purpose. Not sloppy. Super comfortable, but nowhere near the look of “I don’t care” that some project when they get on a plane in crocs and pajama pants. This, on the other hand, can be something you can wear while meeting a date for an early weekend coffee run. And for later on, when the summer sun starts to heat up? Ditch the sweater. The pants really are lightweight enough to wear when it’s hot out. If the texture of the sweater and belt feels a little too “matchy-matchy” to you, then swap out the belt for a plain leather belt or maybe a ribbon belt.

Dressed Up with a Lightweight Sportcoat & Suede Shoes

A seersucker-suit sorta look, without invoking a pure derby day image. If the light in color sportcoat (Northern Lights! STILL workin’) isn’t your thing, a blue sportcoat would absolutely work here too. Green pants, even in a cooler tone like these, are a bit on the loud side. So maybe not good for wearing to a fancy summer wedding. But if it’s more of a laid back, fun wedding? Y’know, not some stuffy affair? Then this look should work for one of those.

With a Nautical sweater and Penny Loafers

Casual, a bit preppy again, but this time with a nautical striped sweater. If you prefer to wear more blue than white/cream, look for a sweater with a blue base and white stripes. Too preppy? You can always throw a lightweight merino v over a white, lightweight button up. Assuming it’s cool enough to do that.
