On being observant

If you’re a frequent visitor to this website, and enjoy this kind of content, then chances are you’re attentive to details. That also means you’re probably more observant, as a whole, than most. A lot of people waltz through life with their head in the sand or the clouds, missing signs that something of real importance, somewhere, with someone, is off. But even if something is noticed by someone who’s a bit more observant than others, that person might not act. They might think they’re overreacting in their head. And that’s an awful mistake to make.

If you see something, say something.

The thing is, there are people educated, trained, and paid to determine whether you’re overreacting or not. That’s their job. Obviously, we at this website are not those people. Far from it. So weighing in on a topic of such importance feels, frankly, really strange. But some of us here have made a call we were uneasy about making. And those on the other end made it clear that they want to hear from you if something is telling you that someone is at risk. Whether it be a single individual, or a large group of people. A child, or grown adults.

Use that smartphone for something more useful than visiting this silly website. If nothing else, do it because the weight of not acting could be something you’d have to carry for the rest of your life.

We’ll still be here tomorrow.
