Quick Picks: Banana Republic Extra 40% off Sale Items

BRSALE = Extra 40% off Sale Items (expires tues. 6/30)

This thing has actually been running for a while now, but either new stock has come in, or thanks to slightly cumbersome browsing on BR’s website, stuff just isn’t moving that fast. And while a 40% off code isn’t too uncommon, stacking this BRSALE 40% off code on top of end-of-season mark downs prices can net some serious steals.

Lotta basics here. Some of which could be worn now, some of which might do better once the calendar starts to sneak up on fall. As is always the case, picks below are limited to those that had at least a decent size selection at post time, unless otherwise noted.

Heritage Cable-Knit Toggle Cardigan – $65.99 ($150)

A substantial sweater that’s probably going to feel neither too wintery, nor super summery. 70% cotton and 30% linen. So not an enormous amount of linen, but probably just enough to give it some texture. Should do well on cool late summer and autumn evenings, and might even get some work in during the winter. Part of their “heritage” collection, which seems to be a step up in quality, and lands somewhere between the mainline and their more expensive “monogram” collection.

Slim-Fit Stretch Poplin – $25.79 | Tailored Slim-Fit Linen Cotton Shirt – $40.79

The slim-fit stretch poplin isn’t super slim, but it isn’t baggy either, and it’s a terrific basic white dress shirt for the price. A noticeable bit of stretch, super smooth fabric, and does well open-collar. The Tailored Slim Linen/Cotton is going to be on the true-slim side, and instead of a mainly cotton poplin, this one is an almost half-and-half linen cotton blend. Not a bad way to add a bit of breathable, lightweight texture under a summer suit at a warm-weather wedding. Poplin retails for $59.50, so with the sale price and the extra 40% off code, it’s almost 60% off. Cotton/Linen dress shirt usually runs in the $50 – $60 range depending on the code.

Owen Suede Lace-Up – $53.94 ($148)

As inexpensive as they’ve probably ever been. Decent suede and solid quality. A classic buck that can be worn with everything from white linen pants to dark wash denim. DSW used to sell an almost (if not completely) identical version under their “Aston Grey” brand, but if memory serves, they were priced around $89.95 and never seemed to dip this low.

Silk/Linen V-Neck Sweater – $26.99 – $32.99 ($69.50)

A summery version of their extra-fine merino wool v-necks that do quite well in the fall. Could be closer through the sides, but if you’re carrying a little bulk, then you might appreciate the extra room. 55% silk / 45% linen has a nice subtle texture to it. Note that the shades that are already marked down to $30 do NOT get the extra 40% off. Right… totally confusing. They’re a part of another promotion, and therefor not considered part of the “sale” section. This is a prime example of retail sometimes (often?) getting out of control with sales/codes/promos/specials.

Luxe Touch Jaspe Stripe – $26.99 ($54.50)

The “luxe touch” fabric is smooth as glass, and somehow still 100% cotton. A dressed up polo, if there is such a thing, that can be easily dressed down. More of a spread collar on these, and the jaspe-stripe is a great way to break out of a solids-rut. Now more than half-off with the code.

Slim-Fit Non-Iron Dark Chambray Shirt – $40.79 ($89.50)

A reasonably priced chambray dress-shirt for the guys who want to try the whole khaki summer suit / chambray shirt / knit tie look this summer. It is medium/dark blue though, so it might show some pit stains if you start to sweat.

Kentfield Slim Linen/Cotton Pant – $35.99 ($79.50)

Appears to be a dressier cousin of GAP’s cotton/linen pant. Does have that front leg crease. And know that the Kentfield is going to feel a little too tight on those who’ve got some decent mass to their lower body. 55% linen / 45% cotton.

Vintage Straight Indigo Jean – $41.99 ($89.50)

For those that like their blue jeans really blue. As saturated as it gets, with matching stitching and everything. Not your average dark wash jean, which still has a little bit of white poking through under the blue base. This is all blue. Cut in their not too trim, not too bulky “vintage straight” fit.

Joshua Suede Monk Strap – $65.99 ($128)

A little darker in person than on their website, but still a versatile, smart-casual shoe all the same. Great shape to the toe, decent quality at first blush, and the nicely sized (not too big, not too tiny) buckles are more matte than flashy. Nap to the suede is pretty short, but they kept the burnishing under control (which is good). A great match for light grey or off white 5-pockets, a white shirt, and a blue cotton blazer.

Slim-Fit Dot or Striped Cotton Linen Shirt – $31.74 ($74.50)

Like all their other slim fit shirts, they’re not super slim. So, if you want something that’s more breezy than clingy for the warmer months, these might be worth strong consideration. Stripes on one option, dots on the other. Both are 55% linen and 45% cotton button downs.

Traveler Denim Jacket – $56.99 ($120)

As dressed up as a denim jacket can get. Made from their outstanding, deep navy, super stretchy traveler denim. Too bad the jeans themselves aren’t going for this low of a price. NOTE: Many thanks to reader Jim K., who sent in a tip about the lack of pockets at the waist on this thing. So, nowhere to put your hands on the lower part of the jacket.

Banana Republic Aiden Slim Lightweight Chino – $40 ($69.50)

Not up for the code, but they are marked down to $40, which is a hair over 40% off. Note that they are a true slim. Size shown is 32×30 and they felt shrink wrapped on 5’10” / 185. BUT, the fabric was noticeably lighter than their standard chinos, they come in five shades, and the cotton is soft without feeling squishy or brushed. It’s a lightweight pant, but not cheap feeling. Do know that these have that branding tag just over the back right pocket (as shown above). Some care, some don’t.

Anchor Skull Socks – $4.99 ($12.50)

Yar. Avast ye booty. And whatnot. Perfect for tipping a free shipping at $50 balance if you’re close.

The extra 40% off sale items code BRSALE expires tomorrow, Tuesday 6/30/14.
