Win it: The Duluth Pack Medium Sportsman’s Duffel

Duluth Pack Waxed Canvas Medium Sportsman’s Duffel – $350.00

NOTE: The Sportsman’s Duffel is made in 16 different colors, 15 of which are not waxed and clock in at $325. It’s an extra $25 for the waxed canvas option, which is up for the giveaway down below.

Recently featured as one of the “Target Collective” brands, Duluth Pack has been making leather and canvas bags since the Chester A. Arthur administration. That makes them the oldest leather and canvas bag making company in the USA (and good ol’ Chet probably would have loved em’ too. A man with 80 pairs of pants needs to have something attractive to carry his duds around in). And while the collaboration with Target is brand new, their designs and quality are firmly rooted in their roots. Yes, rooted in their roots.

Their flagship piece of luggage, the medium Sportsman’s Duffel, is perfect for weekends away and does well as a carry on. It has the look of something whose design hasn’t changed much since the company set up shop in the late 19th century.

It’s an English design you’ve probably seen before, but these are executed to extra-tough standards by craftsman in Duluth Minnesota. They didn’t spare any effort on this thing, and it’d be bad business to do so, being that they’ve guaranteed all their goods for life.

The heavy, waxed, 18 oz canvas pretty much stands up on its own, even when empty. The three roller buckles and their corresponding leather straps operate smoothly and easily. And the YKK zipper used to close the bag under the flap is a beast. That zipper has been designed specifically for use on outdoor gear, so you’ll be just fine if going from cab to airport to plane to cab to hotel.

The entire bottom is capped with a pliable, yet durable feeling leather. That same leather is used on the rolled handles and accents. High stress points have not only been riveted, but they’ve been riveted straight through the tough interior nylon liner. It’s all taught and secure. No slack or wobble. They’re not trying to hide any of their work by sewing the liner on top after the fact.

Solid feeling but not unwieldy, the 2500+ cubic inches of space is perfect for plenty of us for a long weekend away. And the heritage design that hearkens back to a time when travel meant cobblestones, not tarmac, still looks handsome as hell even in the most modern of transportation scenarios. You’d think President Arthur would have approved.

Enter here to win the Duluth Pack Waxed Canvas Medium Sportsman’s Duffel shown above. Deadline for entry is 12:59 PM ET on 5/7/15. Many thanks to Duluth Pack for sending along one of their signature Duffels for the giveaway!

UPDATE: Congrats to J. Basso who won the random drawing for the Duluth Pack Sportsman in waxed canvas! Many thanks once again to the great folks at Duluth Pack for sending along this bag for review & giveaway.
