What’s Dappered Threads? It’s our forum. Launched in 2011, Threads has become a not too big, not too small, just-right-sized forum that doesn’t put up with snobbery. All thanks to the users and hardworking mods. Once a month, one of the mods from Threads provides us with a highlight package of the last few weeks.
Users reggieandtfe and ninpb trotted out their worn in Chromexcel products. Feast your eyes on Alden cap-toe & Indy boots, Wolverine Courtlands, and more. Don’t worry, it’s natural to drool.
Started back in March, the podcast thread has continued to gain steam. Big-name shows such as Radiolab, Freakonomics, and Serial are popular, but this thread will open the doors to new podcasts on everything from cooking to litigation.
User JDI posted this challenge thread featuring the common high/low conundrum. Users were challenged to combine something “high” with something “low”, be it in price or formality. User Shomas featured his high-priced Alden cordovan loafers with inexpensive J. Crew Factory pants and a Timex watch. User LesserBlackDog took the trophy with his winning homage to history by combining workboots and a tweed blazer to showcase how workwear has become part of standard smart/business casual outfits. Oh, and don’t ignore his signature belt buckle.
User facelessghost kicked off a brilliant thread asking members what they wear but “shouldn’t” and what they don’t wear but “should”. Naturally flip-flops and the infamous cargo shorts made appearances in the things-I-wear-but-shouldn’t category. Lots of guys are doubtful of their abilities to pull off double monks, hats, loafers sans-socks, and double breasted jackets. User threeputtbogey summed it up best: “Peer pressure, Internet style.”
As spring turns to summer, guys are on the hunt for seasonal, yet frugal, footwear. User Boys Husky is on the hunt for the warm-weather standby suede bucks. Walkover and 1901 were offered as options, as were the Dappered-approved J. Crew Kentons. User TheDapperPlatypus found some slick suede wingtips by 14th & Union (a Nordstrom house brand) at Nordstrom Rack for well under the $100 limit.
