Style Scenario: Summer Wedding, Super Casual

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Dressing for summer weddings can be tough. It’s warm, you want to look good, but you don’t want to treat someone else’s big day as your own personal fashion show (it’s seriously bad form). We’ll tackle 3 warm weather wedding scenarios over the next few days. Today features the most casual scenario. The couple might go barefoot. The groom might skip a suit, and be in linen pants and an untucked shirt. This outfit respects the day, while still keeping it loose.

The Shirt: J. Crew Seersucker Popover – $45.15 w/ SALETHERAPY ($64.50). Short sleeves & seersucker = gonna try and keep you as cool as possible. Tuck it in if you want, or leave it out. Doesn’t matter. They’re cut to hang just past the belt line, and leaving it untucked will improve circulation. If this is a super-casual wedding, nobody’s gonna care.

The Sunglasses: B.R. Corbin Sunglasses – $98. This is the type of event where more casual shades, like these, is plenty appropriate. Good weight to them, a little sporty (but far, FAR from Oakleys) but can still be dressed up. Goes on sale every so often.

The Pocket Square: TheTieBar White Linen w/ contrast White Border – $10. White on white, but contrast? You bet. It’s edged in a solid white border, while the body of the square is a standard, slightly translucent linen. Gives it a little extra somethin’.

The Blazer: UNIQLO DRY Lightweight Blazer – $49.90. Yes, a blazer. And yes, in blue. If it’s too stuffy (literally, or visually) when you arrive, take it off and hang it on the back of your chair. You (or your date) might want it during the reception after the sun goes down. Meanwhile, why blue? If you show up in a white or khaki blazer, you risk matching up with the groom or the wedding party. Is it a big deal? Probably not. Do you want to look like you’re trying to crash the front table, even at an uber-laid back wedding? Also no.

The Pants: B.R. Heritage Slim Linen Pant – $59.10 w/ BRFOLD40 ($98.50). Casual, breezy fabric, in a slim cut. “Stone” is neither boring office khaki yellow, or bright & flashy white. Somewhere in-between. Leaning towards grey. Always on sale.

The Underwear: Whatever’s comfortable… in grey. Boxers, briefs, or something in-between. Whatever you usually wear in warm weather, go with that, but choose grey. White or Black might show through your light in weight, and color, pants. Grey won’t.

The Belt: J. Crew Made in the USA Braided Belt – $27.65 w/ SALETHERAPY ($39.50). Strange how “business in the front, party in the rear” doesn’t work when it comes to hairstyles… but warm weather belts? Sure.

The Watch: Skagen Holst Multi-Function – $116.25 w/ FRIEND. Light as air, nice and thin, and walks that dressed-up but not too flashy line. Medium to light brown leather band on this one. Review here. Code is good for 25% off at Macy’s. Has been sold on Amazon, but is currently sold out there.

The Shoes: J. Crew Kenton Suede Penny Loafers – $115.80 w/ SALETHERAPY ($193). The Kenton’s apron toe stitch comes out pretty close to the edge of the toe (which makes it look more casual) but is still slim in shape (which makes it look more dressed up). So it’s a nice in-between. Goodyear welted. Often on sale. Easy to get on and off to knock any sand out, or, in case you head down for a walk and a wade in the surf with your date.

The non-clothing duo: Gold Bond Foot Powder, Titanium Dioxide Sunscreen ‘ Gold Bond’s foot powder is cooling, long lasting, and does the trick. Titanium Dioxide based sunscreens won’t stain your clothes if washed later on in hard water (some of the Avobenzone-type sunscreens can turn to rust in hard water).
