Once again, J. Crew is sticking with the “25% off your order” text in their promo emails and on their site, but there are an immense amount of exclusions. Suiting is out. Half of their blazers… out. Most 3rd party stuff. So, know that going in. And there’s also not one, centralized place on their site where you can view what gets the 25% off. You’ve got to search around. Smart of em’ to do that. Ludlow Sportcoat in Italian Cotton – $171 ($228)

Easily one of the best sportcoats on the market, simply for what it doesn’t have. It doesn’t have some suffocating poly lining (it’s pretty much totally unlined). It doesn’t have hard shoulder pads. It doesn’t have low armholes. It doesn’t have expensive-to-tailor functioning sleeve buttons. And it comes in a not-so-normal shade of blue, that stands out for all the right reasons. Available in a khaki-colored “linen shade” too. Also pictured at the top of the post.

 

Seersucker Shirts in Gingham or Stripe – $56.25 ($75)

Patterns plus pucker. Smart of J. Crew to combine the two. Not cheap for just a single shirt, but, at least it ships free. Also available in their slim & tall cuts.

 

Urban Slim Fit Pants in Irish Linen/Cotton or Oxford – $59.62 ($79.50)

Their “urban slim” is a true slim, but not as tight as their 484 fit (which for some of us, is like trying to slip into a lovely pair of tourniquets). Not a bad price for an Irish linen-blend pant, or an oxford cloth chino, that should see plenty of use when it warms up. Those oxford cloth pants are a ton cheaper than Bonobos Oxleys with the sale… And that free shipping helps out quite a bit.

 

Secret Wash Shirt in Microdot – $59.62 ($79.50)

If you take a spin around J. Crew’s site, you’ll notice that they’re betting heavily on patterns this year. So are other retailers, but J. Crew is really swinging for the fences with bold, loud, sometimes goofy patterns. Dots on a blue background are a comparatively safe play. So, if you want to give patterns a try, yet don’t want to look like you’re wearing Grandmama’s drapes, then this is a shirt to consider. Hidden button down collar too.

 

Ludlow Sportcoat in Irish Linen – $186 ($248)

WARNING: The above shot is from a couple years back, and was taken AFTER tailoring. Thankfully, J. Crew has gone from offering this sportcoat in Small, Medium, Large, etc… and instead now offers it in more exact chest sizes (36, 38, 40, etc). That should help quite a bit with the off the rack fit. Irish linen. Non functioning buttons at the cuffs. That’s a medium up there, but as just stated, that sizing system is now thankfully irrelevant for this blazer.

 

Abingdon Waxed Canvas Duffel – $148.50 ($198)

Sometimes J. Crew bags can disappoint, but being that this one is waxed canvas instead of leather, it’s got some potential. Dimensions = 17 1/2″ x 26″ x 9 1/4″ which = larger than most other weekenders (over 4000 cubic inches of space).

 

Bowery CLASSIC in Hopsack Irish Linen or SLIM in Herringbone Irish Linen – $73.50

The classic fit should work well for most guys with more muscle on their legs. Both made from Baird McNutt linen in not-so-normal shades of blue. Originally $98.

 

J. Crew 6″ Swim Short in Astor Blue Stripe – $56.25 ($75)

Working some Gatsby-era stripes into your swim lineup. Mesh liner on these. Drawstring is on the outside, not inside of the shorts.

 

Kenton Goodyear Welted Suede Bucks – $148.50 ($198)

One of the few shoes that gets these 25% off cuts when they roll around. Unlike most other bucks, these aren’t so clunky through the toe. Much sleeker looking. Available in five shades. Full review here.

 

Popover in Oxford Cloth – $48.37 ($69.50) or Japanese Chambray – $66 ($88)

Perfect for when you just don’t feel like tucking in a dress shirt, it’s too hot for long sleeves, or… both. Cut straight across at the hem at a perfect level so it’s supposed to be worn untucked. Casual for sure, but the button down collar still means you can wear it under a rumpled blazer.

 

Ticking Stripe Belt – $29.62 ($39.50)

One of J. Crew’s perennial warm weather accessories. On sale, ships free, easy to wear. Nautical looking without any unnecessary salty-dogness.

 

Sideline Chambray Short – $52.15 ($69.50)

Fifty bucks for a pair of shorts? Steep. But, visually, these things have something going for them. They took a traditional gym short, and instead of squishy cotton jersey, they slapped chambray on the legs. Still super-casual, but has some style at the same time.

 

Travel Kit in Leather – $82.50 ($110) or Waxed Canvas – $43.50 ($58)

SLIM Merino V-Neck Sweaters – $56.25 ($75)

While other retailers have switched, whole-hog, over to cotton and cotton cashmere blends, it’s nice to see that J. Crew still stocks merino sweaters for the warmer seasons. Wool is just flat-out superior to cotton in so many ways, and with the fine gauge of merino wool’s threads, you lose the cold-weather scratch of lambswool. Compared to cotton, they’ll breathe better, dry quicker, keep their shape better, and still keep you warm.

 

Wallace & Barnes Boiled Wool Cardigan – $148.50 ($198)

The boiled wool fabric is fantastic. Dense and warm without being too bulky, the knit is tight enough that it’s almost slick to the touch, while still having that unmistakable lambswool texture. Contrasting suede elbow patches. Navy at the cuffs and hem. Super flexible. Has some natural stretch to the fabric without getting misshapen. Size shown above is a medium.
