Best Sunday Challenge – Valentine’s Day Special

The February 15th challenge was a riff on the classic combination of love and Abraham Lincoln. Entrants were challenged to post their Valentine’s Day outfits or, if they chose not to give Hallmark the satisfaction, to post a “Presidents’ Day” outfit that featured at least one item in either red or pink.  Entries ranged from JBarwick’s sharp charcoal-blazer-with-pink-tie look to jrdave’s relaxed cardigan-and-jeans look.  In the end, despite stiff competition on the bow tie front from Jamie, mattface took the crown with his layered, behatted, and bowtied look.  It probably helped that mattface was also arrayed for distributing some cool looking homemade Valentines – going the extra mile for the theme never hurts.

 

Best Advice, Liquid Edition (Bourbon, Scotch, etc.)

Jumping off from this post on the Dappered main page, several participants discussed where to look for good deals on high quality bourbons, ryes, Scotches, Irish whiskeys, etc.  Solid recommendation abounded, from specific choices like Four Roses Single Barrel bourbon and Glenmorangie 10 year Scotch (both were mentioned more than once), to styles like giving the oft-overlooked Irish Whiskeys a try.

 

Best “Looking Forward to Dressing Like I’m Not Rescuing Luke From the Wampa“ Thread

Anticipating the eventual end of winter (it’s gotta happen at some point, right?), Mr. Charles posted a thread seeking recommendations for reasonably priced “supportive canvas sneakers that might actually survive the summer.”  In addition to the usual Converse and Vans suspects, readers chimed in with recommendations for shoes by SeaVees, Superga, Adidas, Greats, and Sperry.

 

Best “I Need a Sanity Check to Determine if I Have a Problem” Thread

DocDave posted a thread with a poll to determine how frequently other thread-ites buy suits.  While DocDave confessed that he goes on “a suit buying spree” once a year, other responses ranged from every 2-3 years to “a few times a year.”  Currently, the poll has “once a year” handily winning over “more than once a year” and “whenever there is a sale and a suit in my size.”  But, the poll is still live, so by all means come and make your voice heard!

 

Best of “WIWT”

The “WIWT” (“What I Wore Today”) thread, one of Dappered Threads’ hardy perennials, has been cracking lately.  There have been several solid posts from Jshackleford, LosRockets, JBarwick, 93millionmilesaway, and Creature, among others.  Jamie’s post showcasing his LBM 1911 jacket and Alan Flusser tie, as the anchors to an overall solid outfit, garnered particular praise and kicked off some helpful discussion about where to score good deals on quality jackets and loafers.  If you’re looking for some feedback or to show off an outfit or a particular item, post it up in WIWT.
