Style Scenario: Snow Day

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Snow can be fun. Blizzards can also be extremely dangerous. If you’re stuck in the latter, keep an ear to what the authorities are saying, and keep off the streets until they give the all clear.

The Parka: Vince Camuto Quilted Hooded Anorak – $198.98 ($398). Not quite George Costanza’s Gore Tex Puffer. Look, this is an acknowledgement that sometimes, slim and trim style-forward stuff should take a backseat to something more functional. Got a good quality ski jacket you wear up to the mountain? Use it.

The Scarf: Faribault for Target Made in the USA Wool Scarf – $27.99 ($39.99). Easily one of the better collaborations Target has done in a while. 72″x 10″.

The Hat: J. Crew Factory Wool-Blend Cross-Dot Hat – $9.09 w/ TIMETOSHOP ($34.50). Wool, acrylic, and nylon blend with a bit of a seasonal pattern on it. Final sale on this one, so no returns. TIMETOSHOP should get you 30% off most everything on J. Crew Factory’s site. Good through today, 1/28.

The Pants: Straight Fit Holiday 5-Pocket Moleskin Pants – $54.99 ($79). Soft and warm cotton moleskin falls somewhere between canvas and velvet. Soft, but still tough. No velvet-shine either. Don’t forget a base layer here.

The Mittens: Auclair Goatskin Insulated Snowmobile Mittens – $22.36 w/ ALSLED5Digits get cold. Especially if you’re headed in and out, 5 times in one day to keep on shoveling. Mittens, while not as nice looking, are always warmer. Insulated, goatskin, and surprisingly inexpensive.

The Watch: Seiko Monster – $178.01. Seiko did a bit of a redesign with these. Some like the bloody shark teeth look, some hate it. Regardless, it’s one of the toughest automatics you can buy for under $200.Good for shoveling, or, building an enormous snowman/snow chicken in the yard. Full review here.

The Boots: Sorel 1964 Pac T Boot – $96.90 ($130). If you’re in snow boots, might as well wear some spectacular classics. On sale. Full grain leather uppers. Meanwhile, they’re not on sale, but the Caribou in Tobacoo leather might make you almost look forward to using them in adverse conditions. Almost.

The T-Shirt: Made in the USA “Don’t Give Up The Ship” Tee – $28Via Declaration Clothing. Almost thirty bucks for a tee is pretty damn pricey, but Declaration’s t-shits are outrageously soft, hold up quite well, and have a good trim (but not clingy) fit. A cotton or cotton blend tee isn’t the best idea as a cold weather base layer (it’ll hold onto moisture more than, say, polypropylene long underwear)… but the inspiration here! Invaluable. Try the code FREESHIP at checkout.

The Sweater: J. Crew Slim Rustic Merino V Elbow Patch Sweater – $49.99 FINAL. Slim fit, but still plenty flexible and won’t restrict movement. Decently warm. And the slub knit is casual, but still good looking. Perfect for a snow day.
