Style Scenario: It’s cold. Very cold.

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. If you’ve escaped the current nasty slash of bitter weather that’s torn through most of the U.S. & Canada… then good for you. Feel free to blame Typhoon Nuri, AKA “The Bearing Sea Bomb Cyclone,” which strangely enough is NOT the name of a finishing move in the WWE. Bottom line: It dropped another polar vortex on much of the Northern Hemisphere. Here’s one way to get through it, stylishly.

The Overcoat: Banana Republic Camel Wool Blend Topcoat – $178.80 w/ BRSMILE40. Reg. price is $298, but 40% off drops it under $180. Cut just right. Nice and trim, but still accommodating enough to wear over a blazer or suit jacket and another few layers if necessary. Decent warmth. Perfectly placed hand pockets. More here. Want a cheaper option? Try the slightly longer, slightly more boxy version from JC Penney.

The Jacket/Blazer: J. Crew Factory Navy Flannel Suit Jacket – $168 ($288). Almost always excluded from codes, but $168 seems real fair. Sorta like this from the mainline J. Crew, only in a deeper navy. If you’d like, the pants are also at a decent price right now, and the full flannel suit will run you $256.

The Pants: Lands’ End 608 Slim Fit Moleskin Pants – $25.19 w/ PANT40 & 9338 ($79). Wind cutting, soft, thicker than chino moleskin in a medium to dark grey? Perfect. A warning: The 608 slim from Lands’ End is a true slim. UPDATE: Looks like L.E. launched a perfect promo overnight. That code and pin gets you 40% off pants, plus an additional 30% off sale pants. Big thanks to Robert W. and Jason R. for the tip!

The Scarf: Ralph Lauren Double Faced Scarf – $34.80 ($58). It’s two, two, two scarves in one!  Navy & pinstripes on one side, grey with a small windowpane on the flip side. FREESHIP saves you eight bucks in shipping charges.

The Watch: Hamilton H70555533 Khaki Field Automatic – $386.82Bit of an affordable legend. Swiss auto movement, 100m water resistance, and a durable sapphire crystal. An investment for sure, but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives out there.

The Gloves: Portolano Lambskin Shearling – $53.97 w/ SAF111914 (starting at 2 MT). A thin pair of leather dress gloves ain’t gonna cut it in this kind of weather. These shearling numbers are soft, warm, but not so bulky that you can’t operate an ATM. Code is good for 40% off starting at 2pm MT and runs through the end of the day.

The Shirt: GAP Modern Oxford w/ Blue Check – $49.95It’s too damn cold to be messing around with metal collar stays. Go button down. Washed for extra softness. Always on sale.

The Hat: GAP Ribbed Beanie/Watchcap – $19.95Other item  made in their really nice, thick & solid feeling 55% lambswool / 45% nylon blend. Keeps the ears from getting frostbitten. Cheap.

The Pocket Square: Flannel Herringbone in Hunter Green – $8.00. Hey look, something that’s not brown, blue, or grey.

The Shoes: Johnston & Murphy Tyndall Cap Toe Boot – $175Are they as nice as the brand new Allen Edmonds Bleecker Street? No. Are they much more affordable? Yep. Rubber sole should give some grip. Meanwhile, Bleecker Street 2nds are sitting at $239.20 via TheShoeBank.

The Belt: Ralph Lauren Equestrian Suede Belt – $35.99 ($85). Extra cold temps = more texture in your outfit. Suede delivers more texture. Nice price on this slim, vintage looking belt, and it even ships free with the code FREESHIP.

The Sunglasses: Warby Parker Thatcher – $95.00Polarized so your eye-balls don’t have to deal with snow glare.

The Socks: Wigwam Merino Hiker Socks – $12 – $15. Medium thickness, really good warmth, and super durable. Wear a thin pair of dress socks at your own risk. Besides, you’re wearin’ boots.

The Drink: Smith & Cross “Navy Strength” Rum – $28.99. Navy Strength? … “At this proof, if the spirits spilled while in storage, it would not prevent the stored gunpowder from igniting when eventually used.” Oh. 57% ABV.

NOTE: For those that would be all-too-quick to say this outfit wouldn’t be warm enough, know a highly similar outfit was field tested in single digits the other day, and it was fine. Of course, tolerances for the cold will vary, and more extreme conditions would warrant further analysis/preparation. Bottom line: Don’t get dead.
