Most Wanted Affordable Style – October 2014

Consider these to be power rankings.  Whether you’re looking for gift ideas or a quick upgrade for yourself, expect these to come around about once a month.  The potential best of the best, which you may or may not have seen already.  Agreements, disagreements, and additions are more than welcome in the comments section below.

5. Bertucci A-3T Vintage 42 Titanium – $179.99

That’s a lot of cash for a Swiss Quartz, mineral crystal field-watch… but look at it. Big fan of the second hand subdial. 42mm in diameter. Lightweight brushed titanium case. Sold by Huckberry. Also available from some 3rd party seller through Amazon (but a review isn’t promising about the watch that was delivered). Much cheaper alternative from Timex can be found here.

4. That Rebecca Lowe hosts NBCSN’s Premier League Coverage for…everrrrr

Talk about “quality”. Kudos to NBCSN for hiring Rebecca Lowe to host their Premier League coverage. She’s flying that ship, and she’s outstanding at it. The chemistry between her and the Robbies (Earle & Mustoe) is terrific. There’s no forced, dopey comedy bits or clunky exchanges of ideas on set. The discussion has real pace. She can do a solid American accent. NBCSN is in the second year of a three year deal to carry the Premier League. ESPN is sniffing around for 2016, when the deal is up. Yikes.

3. J. Crew Factory Thompson Navy Flannel Suit Jacket & Pant – $336

Hey now. That’s a pretty slick looking cold-weather suit. Usually you see heathered, flannel suits in grey (and JCF has one of those too). But navy? Nice. Here’s to hoping these new Thompson suit separates drop into the $200s before the snow starts to fly.

2. Calibrate “Cusano” Double Monk in Espresso Suede – $130

Just in time to inject some texture for autumn. Toes are perfect too (see the full review of the leather version here). Slightly elongated silhouette and low profile sole. Ships and returns free through Nordstrom, and their house brand Calibrate tends to crank out some mighty good stuff for the price. The leather versions did have a chemical smell out of the box, but that went away after they aired out for a day or two.

1. Faribault Woolen Mill for Target Scarves (USA made, available 11/2)

Target? Made in the USA? Yes indeed, at least for this collection of wool goods produced by Minnesota’s Faribault Woolen Mill. No idea how much these scarves will run, but items from the collection (throws, bags, tech cases) will range between $13 and $80. They’ll go on sale through Target’s website on November 2nd.

BONUS: That J. Crew changes the sole on their Kenton “Pacer” Boots

That sole sure seems to look a lot better on a pair of warm weather bucks, than a pair of cool weather boots. No? Alden-Indy inspired style, nice looking suede, Goodyear welted, and… a sole that looks like it’s made from Salmon paste. Big fan of the “boulder” shade of suede. Spendy to start at $248.
