The Cold Weather Gift-Giving Guide for Her

Ask A Woman: Brrr, it’s cold out there. Keep her warm with a gift.

If you’ve got a question that needs the female treatment, chances are you’re not the only one who wants to ask it. Beth is our source for the answers. From opinions on men’s style to decoding the sometimes mysterious ways of women, she’ll take on a different question every Thursday. She also might provide an answer without waiting to be asked. That happens from time to time too. Click here to get to know Beth, then get in touch with her by sending your question to: askawoman@dappered.com .

We’re back with another gift giving guide! Temperatures are starting to cool across the country, and many of us are putting away our summer duds and digging out those sweaters and jackets. If your better-half is a lady, or, if a woman in your life (relative, friend, co-worker, UPS delivery-person)  has a special occasion coming up, or you just like shopping early for the holidays, we’ve got some good suggestions to keep the woman in your life warm and cozy.

Betsey Johnson Belted Skirt Wool Blend Coat – $132.66 ($198)

A new twist on the classic trench coat silhouette. I love this coat because it’s really feminine–the cinched waist and pleated skirt accentuate a woman’s curves, while the silver buttons are actually little rosettes. The high neck is nice for windy weather, but it’s also universally flattering. A great fall coat.

Colorful, patterned socks

Socks? As a gift? Yes! I LOVE getting warm, patterned, fun socks. I ask for them every year at Christmas. Having worn sandals all summer long, I may have gotten overly excited this weekend when the weather called for me to pull out a pair of purple and grey striped socks. There’s something very comforting about donning a pair of loud socks when it’s 10 degrees out. Fab.com has a great selection of crazy options, including ones from my favorite brand, Happy Socks.

Neiman Marcus Polka Dot Wool Scarf – $80.50 ($115)

Neutral enough to fit in many a girl’s closet, and with enough personality to easily dress up a t-shirt and jeans. It’s merino wool, so will be nice and warm on crisp fall days, and even cold winter nights. And for those really cold nights it’s long enough to double wrap under a peacoat.

BR Textured Colorblock Crew Pullover – $67.00 ($79.50)

This sweater is great for a gal with a classic aesthetic. She’ll be able to keep and wear this sweater until it falls apart (which will be a long time in the future, given that it’s made of durable merino wool). The black and white dot pattern works with both jeans and any neutral color pant or skirt. Beautiful and classy.

Oatmeal and About Sweater – $64.99

Doesn’t this look cozy and inviting? Seems like they should sell it with a cup of tea and a good book. If you know a lady who craves comfort, this is a really nice oversized sweater that will fit the bill. Many of the comments recommend sizing down, so take that into account.

Grace Hats Algenon Cap – $48

This cute, autumnal hat is warm and stylish. Not all women look great in hats (some of us don’t have the right head shape for it), so if you give this, make sure it’s for someone who you know can pull it off. A nice option for keeping the cold out during these fall months.

Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream – $18 or 24-heaven Healing Body Balm – $35

Cold weather and dry skin go hand in hand. Treat her to a higher quality moisturizer to keep her skin as happy as it can be through the fall and winter months. Both these products from Bliss are highly reviewed on any site it’s sold from. Ships and returns free through Nordys. I don’t think she’ll be returning it though.

Fownes Brothers Tech Fingertip Leather Gloves – $48

Has she already placed her order for the latest incarnation of the iPhone? Even if not, she likely has a smart phone, and gloves like these sure come in handy on cold days when taking off gloves to text if the last thing you want to do. Available in 5 colors.

TOMS Brown Herringbone Desert Wedges – $89

Yes, these are a bit logo heavy. But if the woman you’re buying for is already a TOMS wearer, or has talked about getting a pair, she’ll be fine with it. These booties have fall written all over them, and it’s ALWAYS impressive to a woman if a guy buys her a pair of shoes she likes. There are solid suede options as well.

Grace and Lace Nellie Knit Scarf – $38

One more scarf for good measure. This chunky knit can either be worn buttoned as an infinity scarf, and unbuttoned and wrapped like a normal scarf would be. When I saw this, I wanted it. And that means other girls will too. Sold by Etsy Shop Grace and Lace.

Have you hit a home run with a fall-centric gift for a woman? Leave that in the comments if you would. Good luck Gentlemen! Stay warm…
