The Monday Sales Tripod – 2/10/14

The Thur/Fri Handfuls are great, but what if Monday rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? You’ll find three of the best, with three picks from each, to start the week below. Expect these with zero regularity. Note: The Sales Tripod’s mascot is Captain Cookster, the three legged tabby seen above. Proving that yet again, in the most unlikely ways, cats continue to dominate the internet.

Leg #1. J. Crew Factory 30% off Everything w/ XOXO

Code also gets you free expedited shipping, but it’s only good through today. Hugs & kisses eh? Or wait, kisses and hugs? Looks to be kisses and hugs. But it’s always XOXO, not OXOX (two oxen hugging and kissing?). So if it’s XOXO, shouldn’t it be Kisses and Hugs? Or actually Kiss Hug Kiss Hug? Strange.

Thompson Sportcoat in Glen Plaid Linen Cotton – $75.60 ($148)

If it fits like their previous Thompson sportcoats, then this could be a major steal at seventy five bucks. It does say it’s fully lined, which is a bit of a bummer, but it could be a great spring to not-too-hot summer blazer. Should be pretty easy to wear now with jeans. No word on the %s of the cotton/linen blend.

Slim Straight Garment Dyed 5-Pockets – $31.15 ($69.60)

Alternatives to khakis. Feels more like a favorite pair of jeans thanks to the 5-pocket styling, but they’re made in more spring/summer friendly shades than dark blue denim. Nice that the XOXO code delivers free shipping, so you could potentially pick up just one pair of these and not shell out the $5 to get them to your place.

Chambray Bomber – $61.60 ($118) | Quilted Vest – $45.15 ($79.50)

A new arrival and an old standby. That chambray bomber is going to find its way into many a wardrobe. Like a distant cousin to the jean jacket, yet still very much not a jean jacket.

Leg #2. Billy Reid FINAL sale

Looks like this is either the last call, or close to it, for last season’s styles from well known American designer Billy Reid. Heads up though, sale styles can be only returned for either an exchange or store credit (has that always been the case?). Also know that some of their stuff can run pretty trim, so sizing up might be necessary for some.
.

Pima Cotton Honeycomb Crew in Grey – $59.00 or Navy – $78 ($195)

Lots of texture on a pima cotton sweater with raglan sleeves. Sizes appear to be going pretty quick, and can’t imagine they fit that trim through the body in person? Billy Reid stuff is trim, but that looks a little too clean through the sides.

Rustin Blazer in Navy/Brown Plaid – $250 ($625)

90% wool, 10% Nylon, with a three inch lapel and Navy/Brown Tartan Plaid. Natural horn buttons. Dual vents. Made in Italy. Could certainly see some work this with those off-white Garment Dyed 5-pockets from JCF.

Tallapoosa Polo in “Quarry” – $35 or Heathered Polo in “Forrest” – $41 ($115)

Casual but not sloppy. The kind of thing you wear to go get a couple of beers and watch a game or PPV. Scattered sizes for each. Browse around and you’ll find a few more color options.

Leg #3. Orvis Extra 20% off Online Sale Outlet

It’s an extra cut off end of season clearance, and there’s some real temptation here. Orvis can run big and bulky, but they do carry more than a couple of desirable 3rd party brand. Plus, their own line can nail that upscale rugged thing as well. No code needed. The extra 20% comes off at checkout. Sale runs through 2/17.
.

Loake Brogue Boots – $239.20 ($375)

Is the AE Dalton too rich for your blood? Would you prefer something with a rubber sole for slugging through crappy weather? Then head across the pond. Founded in 1880, Loake has an awfully good reputation for making solid shoes that can handle Britain’s quick shifting climate. Hand-lasted and bench sewn in the UK.

Orvis “WWII Deck Jacket” – $159.20 ($250) | Barbour Bedford – $175.20 ($279)

Two jackets for this period between Winter and Spring… and then… once again for between Fall and Winter. Deck jacket is made from corded cotton and has gunmetal fireman’s clasps + a front zipper. Barbour’s Beford is still expensive, even when on sale, so good thing Orvis has a similar coat that also gets the 20% off.

Blue Suede Wingtips – $103.20 ($175) | Leather Dopp Kit – $83.20 ($135)

A hundred bucks for what’s basically the Florsheim Haviland. Goodyear welted with a Danite-like cleat outsole. The dopp kit is called “double duty” due to the standard top entry, plus a zipper on the bottom for flatter items (razor, comb, etc…)

Also on the radar to start the week: Lands’ End is 25% off one full priced item through today w/ SHOP25 and pin 2510. Cole Haan is offering an additional 25% off select sale items w/ code SPRING (and their Air Madison Single Monks, while not even getting that extra cut, are down to $120). Ralph Lauren is knocking an additional 20% off sale items w/ LASTCHANCE20. Maxton Men is taking 40% off their Made in the USA ties & Pocket Squares w/ GOUSA.
