The Suggestion: Grey Suede Chukkas

They’re a heck of a companion with jeans, and somehow they can even tie together brown 5-pockets and a black sweater. Grey suede chukkas seem to help blur the lines of what does and what doesn’t work when it comes to color coordinating and casual style. They’re different, but they’re still… grey. No need to match your belt or watch strap to these things, and black or brown will work. Here’s a few pairs worth considering adding to your closet.

Barney’s New York Crepe Sole Chukka – $84.50 ($340)

Barney’s Warehouse just launched an extrra 50% off FINAL sale (so no returns), and these are surprisingly included. Lots of sizes left at post time. Cement shade suede, an outstitched welt, and… holy cow look at the retail price. They better be high quality if they were at some point selling for three bills. Ships free. Again, final sale.

J. Crew Macalister in Anchor Grey – $89.60 w/ GIFTNOW ($148)

On sale and the extra 30% off code GIFTNOW gets them under $90. Made in Italy, stitched welt, flatter/more casual laces. Nice to see these made the sale since J. Crew has started to exclude men’s footwear (even their own line) during lots of promotions.

Calvin Klein Phillip – $104.99 ($140)

CK shoes don’t have the best reputation, but cheap suede is almost always a safer bet than cheap leather. And the extra-dark shade of grey makes these look slightly more dressed up. Free shipping through 6pm.com.

1901 Canyon Chukka – $99.90

Maybe the safest play out of all of these. The price is nice and low, the Nordstrom house brand 1901 makes solid stuff, and they ship and return free. Sole could be a little slimmer, but they’re good for casual wear.

Walk-Over Wilfred Suede Chukka Boots – $134.50 ($269)

USA! USA! … Right, made in the USA. Still casual, but sharper thanks to the regular rubber sole instead of a rough textured crepe. Three eyelets instead of two. Use the code FREESHIP for free shipping.

Red Wing 8144 Classic 6″ Boots (Factory 2nds) – $131.63 w/ ALDEC3 ($250)

Allright, not a Chukka. But still worth a mention. Seems like STP is still getting in some Red Wing 2nds, so keep an eye on that brand’s STP page for more styles. ALDEC3 gets you 25% off $125 or 30% off $200+. But yes, they run 30% off… sometimes 40% off codes every so often too. Watch out for those on their twitter page and FB.

The Would You Wear It? Kenneth Cole New York Buckle Chukka – $89.40 ($149)

A chuckle with a buckka. Or something like that. Big fan of that shade of deep dark grey. But they have to be a no. Don’t they? They have to. … Something’s there though. Maybe. Probably not. DAMMIT they’re a no. 99% sure.

Take us home Piano Man… (But this is much better… so’s this…)
