The Friday Handful 3/1/13

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier.  Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look.  Those are what make up these handfuls.  Expect these things when necessary.  Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below.  Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.

Brooks Brothers: $50 off $300, $100 off $500, $200 off $800
A pair that together trips the first threshold.

The Picks: Pebble Card Case – $58 + Calfskin Moc Boots – $248.00 = $256 Total.  Or, on their own, Filson’s Twill Padded Computer Bag – $275.00 ($325).  Motorcycle Jacket – $368.80 ($698)

This “Spring Wardrobe Event” runs 3/2 – 3/6 but there’s an online only preview day today.  It requires a hefty amount of spending to see the discounts, but if you’re in the market for an investment piece, there’s some savings to be had. There are some exclusions (like Cordovan shoes, watches, etc…) so check those.  Get ready to combo up if you’re looking to haul in some smaller stuff.  The Card case has a great texture, and those moc boots might be “imported” but with a Goodyear welt and slim profile, they’re tempting.  Plus, there’s always the Filson stuff.  A sale that’ll miss the mark for plenty, but be a big hit for a few.

Macys: Extra 25% off Men’s Purchases of $100+ w/ STYLE
Great prices on the suits, the blazer in the middle might get cheaper.

The Picks: Michael Kors 3-Piece – $224.99 ($495), INC Linen/Ramie Blazer – $89.63 ($119), Calvin Klein Peak Lapel Slim Fit Suit – $239.99 ($650)

Been awhile since a few Macy’s Suits got some run.  Michael Kors suiting is usually a step up in quality from Alfani RED and Hilfiger, but still fused.  $225 for a windowpane 3-piece might be worth a shot.  The Calvin Klein suit has a noticeable peak lapel, so be warned there if you’re more of a notch guy.  And that INC linen/ramie blend appears to be a repeat from last spring, which if the fit holds true, it should be decent off the rack in a nice and lightweight fabric (up close of the fabric from last year can be seen here).  Doesn’t appear to have a matching set of pants (UPDATE:  Yes it does… vest too.  Hat tip to Mike R. in the comments…)  You can get the extra 25% off in store, but you’ll need to print off a savings pass to get it.  Might be worth using their “find in store” button and then making a trip in if you’ve got a Macy’s nearby to check out fits.  Code & Pass expire 3/3.

Bonobos: One-Time $78 referral credit through 3/10

The Picks: Rhodes Collar OCBD in Mint Green – $78/potentially free (standard or slim)

This is to promote their new slim fit casual shirts.  Works like their usual referral program, only through 3/10 you can snag one $78 credit for a new customer that you refer and makes a purchase.  Their standard fit is already much more true to size than most mass market retailers, so for those guys who are extra slim, the new slim line might be incredibly welcome.  Got a couple of shirts on the way for in-person testing in both standard and slim, so we’ll see how they fit.  In the meantime, here’s some differences in how the new slim fit measures up, literally, via Bonobos PR:

Shoulder Width: Slim is 1/2″ smaller than standard
Chest Circumference: Slim is 1″ smaller than standard
Waist Circumference: Slim is 2″ smaller than standard
Bottom Sweep: Slim is 1/2″ smaller than standard
Armhole: Slim is 2″ smaller than standard
Muscle: Slim is 1/2″ smaller than standard
Elbow: Slim is 1 1/4″ smaller than standard

JC Penney:  25% off all Stafford apparel and select accessories
Pale up that shirt and we’re talkin’.

The Picks: Glen Plaid Suit – $135.00 ($180), Fitted Broadcloth Shirts – $11.00 ($15)

If only they offered their new slim suit in a more toned down pattern.  First spotted over here, and the shoulder pads are much, much less aggressive on this new slim suit.  The wool is nice, lightweight, and moves well.  Arm holes could be a little higher, but they aren’t Alfani low.  The 40R was a little big on my frame, and they didn’t have any 38R jackets to try in store.    Hat tip to TJ and a few others for sending in the style tip.  In person with the new broadcloth shirts can also be found over here.

Rue La La: Menswear Roundup
Not gonna look right together…

The Picks: Fratelli Rossetti Suede Loafer – $249.90 ($650), Timex Rubber Strap Chrono – $74.90 (but can be had for less over at Amazon, as long as you’re okay with going strictly through a 3rd party seller.)

Flash sale site Rue La La is doing a big men’s clearance event, and since it’s clearance, sizes are scattered all over the place.  So best to search by your size and see if you get lucky.  Shirts, suits, shoes and accessories all up for grabs.

Also worth a mention: J. Crew Factory is once again running a code.  This time it’s MOREPLEASE for 25% off everything.  Also, J. Crew is doing free shipping no minimum with the code FREESHIP.  Jos. A Bank (no really) has a few tempting coats on clearance with an extra $10 off w/ RETAILJN (thanks to Matt B. for the tip).  If you’ve got a blank wall to fill, HauteLook has some great (and framed) blueprints of everything from the Batmobile to Lego Men starting at $77.  Club Monaco is doing 20% off purchases over $150 w/ SPRING20.  Like the Brooks Brothers sale, that’s a high threshold, but it does drop the Wolverine 1000 Mile boots they carry from $345 to $276.  Code expires 3/3.
