What would you pay? J. Crew Factory’s new Cotton Blazer

And J. Crew Factory is doing just that with their new cotton blazers.  A navy wool blazer is a staple, but they can be expensive and don’t work so great once it heats up.  A navy cotton blazer looks sharp with jeans and a white button up for a night out right now.   It’ll also look just as good with a pair of lightweight linen pants at a casual summer wedding in a few months.  You’d think most brands would have a solid, navy, cotton blazer in a trim cut on hand at all times.  But there’s been a serious drought as of late.

Standard navy and khaki colors available, plus matching pants.  Total suit is $216 retail.

This Thompson, as long as it fits like it’s wool & wool blend predecessors, should hit all the right marks with the less-is-more strategy.  It’s simple, dark navy, has medium/light brown horn-like buttons, and the button stance is Ludlow like.  A classic piece (there’s two of those words) in cotton that has been absurdly hard to find as of late.

But what would you pay?  $128 is the list price. (update: Now that these have moved from the pre-sale to on the full site, they’ve changed the pricing to $148 for the jacket and $98 for the pant, but they’re “marked down” to the $128/$88 level)  But most of us are now conditioned to wait for a 30% off sale.  One of those codes would drop this new blazer to a can’t-imagine-it-wouldn’t-be-well-worth-it $89.60.  Sizes on the jacket start at 36/s (again, giving the people what they want… hat tip to you shorter guys who contacted J. Crew customer service) but pant inseams don’t go longer than 32 (stinks for the tall guys).  Cast your vote and leave additional thoughts in the comments.
