What would you pay? The Triwa Nevil Chrono

Triwa Nevil – $282.00 through Fab.com  (and what is Fab.com anyway?)

“Fab is a marketplace for discovering everyday design.”  Ah.  So it’s a flash-sale site, but their angle is that they’re a bit of a MoMA/Urban Outfitters/Etsy blend.  Kinda.  From Art, to bowls carved from Chinese Fir trees, to bicycle riding T-rex t-shirts, Fab certainly projects a feeling of eclecticism.  And these watches just popped up.

The brand TRIWA is allegedly an abbreviation for “Transforming the Industry of Watches.”  Some of them are awfully bright and look a lot like the brand Toy Watch.  Others, like their Nevil Chrono, look like a really well executed combination of style between a larger +40mm chrono and a NATO strap equipped field watch:

Note:  Not all of the Triwa Nevil’s are available on Fab.com.  These are available on the Triwa website, for almost the exact same price, and the exact same shipping charge.  More on that in a sec…

Some are really going to like the style, the movements seem to be either Citizen or Seiko, and the organic leather straps look real nice.  But there are a few strikes against these things:

  1. It’s a quartz (but it’s a chrono, so, good luck finding an affordable auto chronograph)
  2. The water resistance is only 50m
  3. The case is “acetate” with a steel case back
  4. It’s “final sale” through Fab, and they’ll stick you for $25 in shipping charges on top of the already steep price.

Wait for it… waiiiiit for it…..

$282 on Fab w/ $25 shipping and it’s final sale.  $285 through Triwa direct with $25 shipping.  Are we missing something here?  Other than the $3 difference?  Plus, $300 seems awfully steep for a watch with this movement, this water resistance, and a non stainless steel case… right?  Feel free to vote & leave your take on Fab and Triwa below.
