Consider shoes like these one of the more recent extensions of the bright-colors-thing.  The brightness is hidden, but just slightly, as the color on these shoes comes up the sides of the soles and provides that pop that a lot of guys look for, and a lot of guys look at and think:  “hmmm.”

Or, something like that.

They’ve appeared in magazines (even this exact shoe) and a few emails have come in about the trend.  It’s widespread enough that accessible brands like Cole Haan are making them, and now with sales, almost anyone can get their hands on and feet in a pair.
