Orient Watch Giveaway – January 2012

The 12 Months of Orient: Sightseer Automatic- $250 w/ DapperedJanuary ($500)

The Orient Watch Company has a dedicated following for good reason.  They’re the only watchmaker whose foundation is a wide range of incredible looking affordable automatics, & now they’ve partnered up with us to give away a different watch for an entire year.  Every month we’ll review and give away a different featured watch, plus you’ll also get a new promo code good for 50% off ANY watch at OrientWatchUSA.com for that month.

UPDATE: As of late February 2012, Orient has decided to no longer honor codes that delivered 50% off. Those codes are now worth 30% off. This is a new regulation that affects all of their promotional agreements.

Busy.  There’s a lot going on around and on top of the Orient Sightseer’s dial.  Part of their world time collection, both the outer city ring and the inner 24-hour time ring rotate.  This allows you to know what time it is, in say, the Azores, just in case you’re calling in for some kind of diplomatic treaty.  Right.

It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of how to set the world time function (this video from Orient helps) it’s pretty impressive.  And since it’s fully automatic, there’s no battery or microchip doing the work.

The case isn’t perfectly round but instead scoops in nicely between the crowns and band.  There’s a bit of texture at the center of the face, and the sub dials are the second hand, date indicator, and 40 hour power reserve gauge.  Like most Orients, the Sightseer powers up real fast.

A sapphire crystal should keep it scratch free as you’re moving through airports (on the way to the Azores… naturally.)  The skeleton case-back that lets you see the movement doing its thing, and at 43mm it’s sizable, but doesn’t look like a dinner plate on the average wrist.

Just two drawbacks.  The screw-down crown, at least on this particular watch, wasn’t the smoothest to operate.  Same went for the deployment clasp.  They did loosen up after a few workings, but out of the box they were rough.

Here’s how to win the Sightseer seen here:  Send an email to contests@dappered.com with the subject: Orient January.  One entry per person.  Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET on 1/3/12.

UPDATE:  Congrats to James K. who won the Orient Sightseer.  Four months left in the 12 months of Orient…
