Been awhile Lands’ End Canvas. When the 2011 Store Wars Champ introduced their fall line back in late summer, the new, higher price ranges took some getting used to. But now, half a year later, the weather is plenty cold for blazers, boots, and wool pants, and the prices on their goods have dropped significantly.
Up to 75% off in some instances. Boots for $50, Blazers for $60, and those wool pants are now in a very reasonable $60 – $65 range. Plus it all ships free with BLIZZARD and the pin 1038.

So you want to wear something other than jeans (either to work, or on the weekends) but paper thin wool dress slacks just won’t fly. Cotton khakis aren’t your favorite either, especially around this time of year. These are the answer. Wearable with boots and even classic sneakers if you put a layered sweater and oxford up top. Sure they’re still somewhat dressed up, but with the thicker, rougher fabric, they’ve got a bit of a workwear feel to them.
Montrose? These’ll work for getting around town on your bad motor scooter, hitting a trail for a short hike, or wearing with a certain well liked fisherman’s sweater. Suede seems counter intuitive to hiking boots (since, y’know, it’ll scuff up, soak up, and not be all that friendly over long hauls) but it looks too darn good. Low enough in price that expecting them to last for a decade shouldn’t be happening.
Almost $200 for a khaki colored chino blazer seems to be pushing it. But now it’s down to around $60, ships free, and apparently has a nice substantial feel to it. Patch pockets keep it dressed down.
Why a vest? Because it keeps your torso warm while allowing your arms to move freely without any sort of restrictions. And they’re a great layering piece that often cost less than a full blazer. Why not a vest? Because you risk looking like a Gangs of New York (or Newsies) fanboy. Reviews say this fits a little small. Which is good. You want it fitting close. A waistcoat that doesn’t get right up to your torso can leave you looking like barrel man.
You could work it in here and there while the weather is still cold, but it’ll see plenty of use once the weather warms up. Juts $20. 2 3/4″ at it’s widest point. And hooray for grey.
They continue to hold up extremely well for me, and they’ve become a go-to that get worn at least a few times every week. Awesome with jeans and a tweed blazer. Great for around the house as well. The sole, which looks leather, is actually rubber and has been standing up well to lots of wear. A few scratches and scuffs add to their look too.
Be not afraid of the camel color. A lighter tanish brown like camel goes extremely well with black. Like the black of the LEC Crosby Boots. But do try and put some contrast on your lower legs as opposed to the khaki pants the model is wearing in the pics. Jeans are the obvious play.
Shaker knit is that big, thick, squishy sort of knit that works well for scarves but not real well on crew and c-neck sweaters (big fat shawl collars are another story.) This one is a mainly cotton blend with wool and nylon in there for good measure.
It won’t fit quite as close as the Ludlow from J. Crew, but that one is long gone and there’s not many other options when it comes to affordable cord blazers. Old Navy still has some of their cord blazers on clearance racks, but those are three button (which not everyone prefers.) Almost $100 off, which is good… since $180 seemed awfully steep at first glance. 14-wale means the width of the lines of corduroy will be much smaller than your dad’s old fat cord blazer from his swingin’ college days.
Weekends and after work only. Don’t try and dress it up. That’s a gun patch on the right shoulder. Tactical, and looks like something you’d pick up at your local Army/Navy surplus store. Speaking of… maybe you should even check there for something similar and less expensive first.
