Most Wanted Affordable Style – May 2011

Top 5 Most Wanted – May 2011

Consider these to be power rankings.  Whether you’re looking for gift ideas or a quick upgrade for yourself, expect these to come around about once a month.  The best of the best, which you may or may not have seen already.  Agreements, disagreements, and additions are more than welcome in the comments section below.

5. TX T3C292 400 Series Perpetual Calendar – $192.45 (reg. $495.00)
Going… going… almost gone.

Already marked down with an extra 20% off deducted by Amazon just before you confirm your purchase.  TX watches are the top end of the Timex Spectrum, and rumor has it they’re being discontinued.  That’s unfortunate because for the most part they knew how to blend modern with classic.  What’s not too bad is TXs are now finally affordable.  That orange day of the week hand is a terrific detail

.

4. Banana Republic Soft Wash Utility Shirt – $59.50 (but always on sale)
Fit is remarkably good.

Yeah it has epaulets, and yes epaulets are overplayed…. but they kinda work with the double pockets in the front.  It’s proportioned really well, doesn’t drop too low in the tail, and darts in nicely at the sides.  Expensive at full price, but it’s a GAP Inc. product so it’ll be on sale almost all the time.

.

3. The Blue StonesThe Blue Stones EP – $7.61

Two things that are hard to believe about The Blue Stones:  1. Their relatively young age compared to how they sound and carry themselves.  2. There’s only two of them.  Even if you don’t dig their killer riffs, fuzzed up guitar, penetrating drums (w/ an awesomely in your face snare), vocals with the right amount of bite… style-of-music, at the very least you have to appreciate that they do it all in suits.  More at their website, & Facebook page.  They’re on iTunes too.

.

2. Johnston and Murphy Brennan Oxford – $103.96 (reg. $130)
Three more colors available

Goodness these things are comfortable.  Right for warmer weather, but don’t hesitate to wear them (unless it’s the white option) deep into the fall.  Sheepskin lining is ridiculously soft and cushioned.  Full review here.
UPDATE: These are also on Macys.com for $97.50 with free regular shipping and in store returns.  You’ll need the code MACYSFF which expires 5/2.  Credit to OnlyShawn in the comments.

.

1. Indochino Ultimate Khaki Linen Suit – $419.00

Too bad the discount codes have evaporated.

There are plenty of Indochino, as the kids would say, “haters” out there.  And now that the used to be ever present discount codes and groupons have disappeared, most of us will have to invest $100 more than normal to get one of their suits.  But their new Ultimate Khaki Linen suit is something.  Cotton/Linen blend, perfect color, a vest, and the contrast at the button holes.  Sure looks like a winner.
