20% Off Any Order at Florsheim + $80 Vinton Review

Florsheim “The Vinton” Dress Laceup – $80.00 (reg. $100)

Use code spring2011 for 20% off.  Expires 3/7.  Free shipping on orders of $100 or more.

Despite the conservative shoe stalwarts criticisms of the toe on the Kenneth Cole New York Regal King, I couldn’t be happier with that shoe.  Back around the holidays the Regal King was available for under $80 on Endless.  And that was with free two day shipping thrown in.  I bought em’, they’re sleek, they’re comfortable and get compliments.

Florsheim is running a 20% off site wide sale with the code spring2011, and that drops the price on “The Vinton” to about the same price as what I paid for the Regal Kings.  $80 for a dress shoe is a tough deal to pass up, and at $100 it qualifies for free shipping.  Here’s what I found after opening up the box:

Top: Florsheim Vinton. Bottom: Kenneth Cole Regal King.

The Pros

  • The shape is slightly slimmer compared to most standard inexpensive dress shoes
  • The Brogue detailing is nice.
  • The closed lacing makes it a true oxford, and streamlines the shape
  • Feels decently comfortable
  • Should appeal to the more conservative dresser

The Cons

  • It’s pretty boring.  Even with the brogue details.
  • The leather looks and feels stiff and a little plasticky out of the box
  • Florsheim.com describes it as being “elongated” “European” and “contemporary.”  Not at first glance.
  • Returns ain’t free.

The Verdict

These just don’t flip my skirt.  But your skirt?  If you like your shoes more traditional?  They might cause some flippage.  The toe isn’t perfectly round, but it’s not some Frankenstein chopped shoe either.  If you’re out for a sub $100 dress shoe that will blend in without so much as a generating a glance in a buttoned up office?  They’re not a bad option.  But as far as them outwardly showing, as Florsheim puts it “European styling for an elongated contemporary look”?  That doesn’t appear to be the case.  To me.

The 20% off anything no minimum Florsheim.com code spring2011 expires 3/7.
