The Best of the Worst – After Christmas Clearance Sales

The Best of The After Christmas Clearance Sales – 2010

You guys know what makes a bad sale.  And this is the time of year when they’re almost inescapable.  Big discount numbers, can’t miss signs… and terrible selection once you step in the store or jump on their website.  They’re everywhere.  They’re beasts.  You almost need to have your pair of PF Flyers on to out run em’.

The Nordstrom Half Yearly sale for men seems to be one of the few exceptions, but the rest of these are a cornucopia of crap.  It’s all stuff the retailers are desperately trying to clear out to make room for their new spring lines.  But there are a few things that are worth a closer look.  Here’s the best that’s still available…
.

Express End of Season Sale:  Gray Cotton Producer Pant – $29.99 (reg. $59.90)

Nice pants for $30.

The Express sale is particularly bad.  Not only are their “select styles” mainly the crazy bright over embellished stuff that Express seems to have been focusing on as of late, the lack of sizes is laughable.  Except for in the gray version of their terrific stretch cotton producer pant.  Wear it with either a Navy Blazer and black tie, or a Black blazer and blue tie.
.

Endless Boot Sale – FRYE Rogan Boot – $178.80 (reg. $298)

As good looking as a hiker gets.

Endless usually runs much better sales.  And $150 for a pair of boots isn’t exactly peanuts, but that’s what you almost always need to pay for a pair of hard working boots.  Legendary name, Goodyear Welt construction, speed lacing system, and also available in a medium brown and a light “camel.”  Plenty of sizes too.  Featured recently in Details.
.

Kenneth Cole “Wear On Sale”:  Wesley Pea Coat – $157.50 (reg. $225)

Plenty long to cover your suit jacket. But not past the knee.

All these brands are acting like spring is right around the corner.  There’s plenty of overcoat/peacoat weather left.  This one is made by Kenneth Cole New York, not the lower brand REACTION, and the drop as well as the chest hand pockets look to be spot on.  M, L, and XXL available.
.

Ralph Lauren Extra 25% off – Barrel Bag – $171.75 ($350) | Cartridge Bag – $126.75 ($295)

Two unique old school bags. Marked way down.

You might recognize the Cartridge bag from the Santa’s Gear post.  It was $170 then… now just $126.75 through January 12.  Same goes for the reduced price on the super upscale looking Blackwatch Barrel bag.  The extra 25% off the already on sale price shows once you put it in your cart.
.

Tommy Hilfiger Extra 30% off – Multi Stripe Scarf & Fisherman’s Rib Scarf – $20.99 ($39.50)

Not bad for $20 a piece.

They’re mostly acrylic, but there’s some wool in there.  The Multi Stripe also comes in a green/grey combo if that’s more your thing.  The texture on the Fisherman’s Rib scarf is can’t miss.
