Kenneth Cole in Success Magazine

Kenneth Cole Profiled by Success Magazine

Kenneth Cole has an interesting story, and he tells it well.  He’s a designer that has embraced his consumers more than just about anyone.  The guy appears to view the people who are buying what he’s selling less as prey, and more as partners.  And that’s pretty rare.

The fashion industry is brutally competitive and never stagnant.  One of his biggest advantages over the competition seems to be that he’s something of a shape-shifter with an immovable foundation.  His products have changed over the last few decades, but his philosophical core has stayed put.  Work hard, make a real difference, and enjoy what you do:

“If this is going to work for you, if it’s going to be what you want it to be, you have to make some choices. And it’s hard to do. But somehow if you can make it more than just about making money, it becomes not so hard.”

– Kenneth Cole in Success Magazine June 2010

That’s not a bad philosophy to adopt no matter what business you’re in.
