Alfani Red Label Solid Charcoal Peak Lapel Suit

Alfani Red Label Solid Charcoal Peak Lapel Suit – $255.00

Click here for a more in depth review of the Alfani Red and how it compares to the Hilfiger Trim fit

Step One:  Ignore the shirt.  And the tie tack.  Both of those are awful.  I’m not surprised that this suit goes on sale on macys.com as often as it does because of what the art department has “accentuated” it with.  A quick Note to the Macys.com photogs:  If you take a great suit and inject it with a horrible club shirt from 2005,  then add in a shiny unnecessary tie tack, most people will see the entire mismatched package and not what they should be looking at.

Flat Front Pants = Good. Shirt = F'in Awful

And what you’re actually looking at is one of the best, slickest, athletic fit suits that’s widely available.

The Macy’s Brand Alfani, and specifically it’s Red Label, gets a ton of things right.  Pants, dress shirts, and especially suits.  This suit is probably the flagship of the Alfani Red brand.  Notice the lapels.  They’re peak.  Which normally is a risk because if the lapels are wide and the peaks are tall, you could end up looking like you have wings.  Or antlers.  Or both. But the lapels on this Alfani Red jacket are slim.  And the peaks aren’t overstated.  Perfectly done.  In person it looks 100x better than in the online picture.

The solid Charcoal is basic and versatile, and the weight of the wool is appropriate for anytime other than the dead of summer.  The bottoms of the arm holes are decently high (like they should be on an athletic/slimmer fit suit) and it’s a great canvas for your tailor to work off of.

The Mad Men craze is still going strong, and even after it dies out this suit will still look good.  Keep the shirt subdued, the tie slim but not skinny, and limit your flash to a clean watch and white pocket square.  Stay with those suggestions and guaranteed it’ll look like you and the model up there are wearing two totally different suits.
