The Perfect Winter Coat

Express Wool Peacoat – $248.00

We’ve had a freak cold snap hit our area (highs in the mid 60s tomorrow despite it being early August), and it has me thinking about the best season of the year.  Autumn.  Which is precisely when you’ll need a good heavy coat to keep you warm.

Express makes one of the best Peacoats I’ve ever seen.  It has strong, thick wool and it’s cut for a good snug fit.  The last thing you want is a big billowy single breasted overcoat that looks like you’re still a kid draped in your Dad’s.  The shoulders on your heavy coat should fit like the shoulders on your suit jacket.  That line where the sleeve attaches to the rest of the coat?  Right.  That should be on your shoulder, not slumping off it.

It’s brought in at the sides, has generous pockets, and slits for your hands mid torso.  The collar is big but not obnoxious, and it flips up pretty well to protect the back of your neck.

I actually look forward to wearing mine for the first time each year… and I never like to put it away when spring rolls around.  $248 isn’t cheap… but for a serious coat you can wear during the colder months with anything from jeans and sneakers to a suit… it’s a great investment.
