Every guy needs "people" in the professional world. These are the three you need to know well.

Photo Credit: The Modern Hotel & Bar, RickM2007, & Corpse Reviver

Three People Every Guy Needs to Develop a Relationship With

1. A Tailor that will become Your Tailor.

Above all else heed this advice. You need to find a tailor that will become YOUR tailor. You don’t want someone different every time. You want your guy. Or your gal. You want a tailor that you’d proudly refer to one of your friends. You need to develop a rapport with them. Because once you do, they’ll start making your off the rack on-sale clothes look like they were made for you. And in a way, they will be. Almost all American Men will buy a suit, sport-coat, or shirt, and never have it tailored to their body. Your tailor will make you look better than these men. Much, much better.

2. A Terrific Barber or Stylist

Similar to the tailor. If you have a different person holding the scissors each time, you’ll be at a big disadvantage. If you never have consistency, you’ll never really get a handle on what works for your head. Find someone that you actually like seeing every three or four weeks. Someone you trust. Someone who knows when to offer a kind suggestion, and knows how to give you a haircut that cleans up your look, but isn’t a drastic change.

3. A top-notch Bartender at an upscale Bar

When you’re out with someone you want to impress, a terrific bartender who knows your face will be your ace in the hole. Walking into a nice bar and having the bartender recognize you (in a good way) is like getting an instant upgrade on a hotel room. The drinks will look and taste better, the service will be impeccable, and he or she will be able to offer honestly interesting suggestions on new cocktails. Strike up a conversation but don’t get between them and their other customers. Never, ever… abuse this relationship either. Bartenders are smarter than you, and they’ll know if you’re trying to be a Big-Shot. They might be serving you, but this is their turf. Never disrespect that. Tip well, be courteous, and that top-notch bartender will make you feel like you own the place.
