The Best of ESQ by Movado
You know you’re dealing with a high end watch maker when even their step down brand would be considered too expensive by the masses. Movado’s ESQ line was launched in the 90s and most of their pieces run between $250 and $650. (Caravelle by Bulova these ain’t). What ESQ Watches happen to be, are watches that take a good sized step away from Movado’s modern ultra minimalism. See the Movado flagship Museum Style Watch, and now take a look at any of the models below. Instead of the blank stare from Movado, the ESQs deliver on more classic dial designs.
And frankly, they’re better off for it. All ESQs ordered direct through Amazon (all links will get you there) come with Movado’s 2-year limited warranty. So at least you get that for the extra coin. The following picks are ordered from most casual to more formal.
.
ESQ Torrent – $195.00 for Black
, Orange
, or Blue
One of the few ESQ models under $200, but also one of the sharper looking rubber strap sport watches on the market. Textured face with arrowhead hands. Triple Groove Band. The dial size? A perfect 41mm. If you don’t have a weekend/post work, t-shirt and jeans time piece, put one of these at the top of your list.
.
ESQ Stratus Chronograph – $395.00
This one’s a big sucker. You better already embrace large watches, or, be a larger human than average to carry this thing on your wrist. It’s 47 mm in diameter and the case is beefy. Points for the white dial and smooth (not croc embossed) leather band.
.
ESQ Criterion Chronograph – $395.00
Even with the Tach along the outer edge of the dial, you should be able to pull this off with a suit. Stainless Steel case, black band and dial, plus red accents. Nice bit of contrast with the white backed triple date window. 42mm.
.
ESQ Muse Chronograph – $395.00
Maybe the watch James Bond would have wore before achieving double-o status and started making bank. 40mm is diameter so it’ll look perfectly balanced with your shirt cuffs. Roman numerals dress it up and get cutaway by the chronograph sub-dials. The pics on Endless just don’t do it justice.
.
ESQ Filmore Tank – $250.00
The poor man’s Cartier Tank. And guaranteed while wearing this rectangular case Filmore you won’t ever be mistaken for poor. The extremely subtle tonal striping inside the numerals on the face is a great detail, the blue hands and tipped crown are an outstanding touch, and it looks even better in person. Plus it’s the right size for a tank. Neither too big nor too small.
